This is a fine, SERIOUS seasonal Stout, with BODY (No pun intended) for days, depth, richness, and not a bit of pandering to the craft newbie crowd who insist on dragging their childhood candy habits into their adult beer fandom.
I’m making this a two-fer of bottles that each richly deserve their own mega-watt spotlight. By comparison, this is like making Anthony Hopkins and Meryl Streep share one car headlight: doesn’t do justice to either but, at least, you can see ’em.
Tough Love 2020, for all my purposes, is Perfect. It leaves NOTHING to be desired. It’s malty, rich, deep, complex, chewy, BALANCED, food-friendly, complete, and immensely thoughtful; one of the brainiest jobs EVER of crafting a great beer.
Coco(a) is a beer that is a damned-site better than about 99% of all the desserts I’ve enjoyed in My Life as a Sugar Fiend and I’m willing to bet it will hit you much the same way.
I could have really just copied and pasted in this review. It’s depressing, for a writer; akin to a 60+ year old rock star having to sing his first hit song every night for 40 years.
